Can’t Stop

I think many things, each new day. Each step, each stride, a question? An answer. What they say is true. So many to choose from, none that i want. A few that shine, more that don’t. Who now? What? Step by step up the stairs. Am i going too far? What was i thinking? Back down again. Should i? Why not? No, it’s too early. Feels good though. Feels very good indeed. But i don’t know that. How should i know that? The first was a joke! The ugliest fish caught in my net. Speared it though. Nice and proper. The raindrops came soon after. One by one by one before i finally gave in and went back inside. Shelter, warmth, lack of rain? I like that. Hmm…can’t resist it. I went back out to fish. But fishing, i’m no expert. Someone threw a pebble at me. Missed though, fortunately. I turned to see who it was. My, my, what a playful pet. I stroked its chin and gave it some food. Doesn’t feel right though. How? What am i thinking? What should i think? What is this? These few seeds which grow at different paces. Red, blue, yellow, green,..and perhaps 1 more. The red one’s the largest so far. I naturally pay more attention to it. And how could i not? It’s beautiful flowers calling out to me…water. You need water? I look around me, a barren desert. What now? I don’t have anything to give. Slowly, the flowers lose their shine. I walk away.

enter Him

Bad afternoon my dear friend i must say, standing here with the tip of my hat a feather on it, dandy and fine, good morning. Come to think of it, my existence on this great blue land seems to be purely coincidental and not at all warranted. However you being here with me must mean something. To be honest the very answers we seek may be the very ones we don’t want to find. What are you doing in my space you intruditional fool. We have too much in common I must say you and your purely contradictionary fancies and dreams which hardly make sense more or less more. However the root of the fact is buried ten feet deep in the soil and I can’t seem to locate its residential address. Are you still here? Good. We must make haste if we are to catch the last train to there. Am I talking to myself or are you real? Don’t look around i’m speaking to you, but you may of course simply be a figment of my imagination, a rift in my logical consciousness and awareness of reality and its constituents, of which you may not belong. But if you truly are essentially alive in every sense of the word, please do join me for a serving of perspective with a cup of reality. Farewell.

The Mime

It’s him, he’s back again. The mime from that place i was telling you about. He comes every tuesday, sometimes sundays but never todays. He walks like a dandy, with a rather complacent smirk on his well made-up face. Click-clock-click his shoes announce his arrival as heads turn and people take notice of the travelling frair from the parish of the former-day demons. His hands palm-up, long fingers playing with the air as if engaged in the process of stitching an intricate work of art. His eyes dart quickly left and right, looking. He likes what he sees. Click! He stops abruptly. By now a crowd has gathered. He swivels on his heels, a full circle. Arms outstretched, head thrown back, shoulders splayed, he unleashed a thousand worlds.

Oh what a show!

Greetings ladies, ladies…gentlemen. Let me tell you about myself. I, am the wind-up ringmaster, yes, the master of this circus! Welcome to the Circus of Absurd Belief! Please, take a seat. Yes, you may sit on each others’ laps if that’s your preference. We are, after all, very friendly here. Very friendly people…people. And what you just saw was our very second performance of Enviable Nothings, starring…why, you of course. That’s right, all of you in the audience. Oh i’m sorry, did i forget to tell you? The Concert

Applause.

Waves and waves of applause.

It seems to stretch on forever.

Almost immediately you are swept up into the sky, arms flailing - reaching for a hold, but upwards you go.

Higher and higher, the wind against your face, slicing through the air.

Everything’s a blur, no looking back.

You close your eyes, arms extended – taking in the world.

The wind dies down, you stop flying.

In panic, you open your eyes.

Caught up in the moment, you’ve stood up.

Everyone looks at you – your arms extended.

You sheepishly seat yourself.

You smile.

What you would give to be one of them…

Why is it that we do what we do - day in, day out like clockwork…right on cue?

Why is it that we persevere, even though no one’s here?

Why is it that we trudge on, weary and worn, when we all we get is people’s scorn?

Why is it that we work, we toil…even though it makes our blood boil?

Why is it that we note the unappreciative glances…but still take our chances?

Why is it that we offer ourselves…yet they dismiss us like a forgotten book left on the shelves?

Why is it that they don’t realise that they need us?

Why is it that they don’t care?

Does anyone care?
